Title: The modelling of fibre lasers for mid-infrared wavelengths
Abstract: The investigation and development of chalcogenide glasses for near-infrared and mid-infrared fibre lasers is an ongoing research topic at Nottingham. Some of our numerical investigations into the possibilities for obtaining mid-infrared laser action in rare earth doped chalcogenide glass fibres will be briefly described, starting from some basic laser physics and progressing through the development of numerical fibre laser models and the experimental techniques used to extract modelling parameters.
