Abstract: Shielding effectiveness measurements of materials is an important aspect in electromagnetic compatibility. It is desirable to achieve standard measurement procedures as simple and reliable as possible. Reverberation chambers are good test environments, where the test fields have realistic characteristics as they are on average uniform and isotropic. We present a variant of an improved measurement procedure in the Standard IEC 64000-4-21 for shielding effectiveness (SE) in reverberation chambers (RCs), where the insertion loss of the fixture is achieved from the SE of the fixture with no sample in the aperture. This variant procedure is particularly appropriate for gaskets and for any flat material having low/moderate loss especially on the side: this generally includes printed circuit boards (PCBs) and printed circuit boards assembly (PCBAs), etc. We also show a simple and usable condition under which the simplest model for the SE measurements of gaskets and materials in RCs can be used. This simplest procedure can be used for any type of flat sample without a particular reduction of measurement performances.
