Title: Modelling Parity-Time Symmetric structures in photonics.
Abstract: The idea of real eigenspectrum with spontaneous breaking in a Hamiltonian with Parity-Time (PT) symmetry in Quantum Mechanics has branched into the area photonics. In this talk, I will give an overview of an analogous PT-symmetric problem in photonics with particular focus on a coupled resonators one of which has gain and loss at the other. A model based on boundary integral equation has been developed and verified by using a numerical time-domain transmission line Modelling (TLM) method. The TLM model is developed to include and satisfy the causality condition known as Kramers-Kronig relations. Interesting features such as spontaneous symmetry breaking and unique laser behaviour will also be discussed.
